Island Insurance Foundation Impacts over 100 Community Non-Profits through $655,000 in Annual Support
The Island Insurance Foundation, the charitable arm of Island Insurance, the state’s largest locally-owned property and casualty insurer, supported over 100 non-profit organizations through donations of $655,000 in 2016. A few areas of philanthropic focus for the Island Insurance Foundation include education, elder care, health, social services and culture.
In addition to supporting non-profit organizations such as Hale Kipa, Lanakila Rehabilitation Center, Palolo Chinese Home, Polynesian Voyaging Society, Queen’s Medical Center and St. Francis Healthcare Foundation, the Island Insurance Foundation supports the education community through its annual Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award. Each year, public school principals across the state are recognized with personal cash awards for their efforts to provide high-quality learning opportunities for their students. Currently in its 13th year, over $450,000 has been awarded to public school principals in recognition of their numerous contributions and to assist their efforts in funding high-impact projects.
Last year, the Island Insurance Foundation donated nearly $100,000 to local healthcare foundations across the state, over $70,000 to youth services and over $90,000 to cultural preservation.
“The non-profit community has helped so many maintain healthy and productive lives,” said Tyler Tokioka, President of the Island Insurance Foundation. “With services ranging from healthcare, elderly assistance, safety and mentoring programs for our youth to cultural preservation, these organizations provide critical services to our community.”
