Island Insurance Elevates Toby Tonaki to Vice President, Claims
Island Insurance Company, the state’s only locally-owned property and casualty insurer, has promoted Toby Tonaki to Vice President, Claims.
In his position, Tonaki will continue to oversee the Claims Division’s Casualty Unit.
Tonaki joined Island in 2013 and has over 25 years of litigation experience. Previous positions include Law Clerk at the Intermediate Court of Appeals, Deputy Attorney General, and Deputy Public Defender for the State of Hawaii. He was also a Partner at Watanabe, Ing, Kawashima & Komeiji LLP before establishing a solo practice.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Tonaki earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Juris Doctor from its William S. Richardson School of Law. He is a member of both the American Bar Association and the Hawaii State Bar Association and is a graduate of Iolani School.
